Chung Kwok-Chu is a renowned food critic and an assistant editor-in-chief of a newspaper, Ko Jim Daily. When his son, Si-Hon returns from Canada, Chu is disappointed to find that Si Hon intends to become a chef rather than taking up a professional career. His attempts to guide his son away are thwarted when Shum Bui-yee, a well-known and respected chef, reluctantly accepts Si-Hon as her assistant. Meanwhile, Kwok-Chu struggles to keep peace amongst extended family members.
Renowned food critic CHUNG KWOK-CHU is invited by a new restaurant to give comments on their food. AU KO-WING and TIN HOI find the service and the food quality of the restaurant unacceptable. In fact, WING and HOI are CHU’s colleagues. CHU, who is also an assistant editor-in-chief of a paper, gives negative comments on the restaurant in his paper. Editor-in-chief CHIN TAI-KWAN tells CHU the restaurant, whose owner is a celebrity, is complaining them. CHU settles the matter tactfully. SUEN MA-LEI and HOI join CHU and his wife, TAU KWAI-SUM, for dinner. HOI tells them, CHUNG SZ-HON, CHU and SUM’s son, is returning to Hong Kong soon. HON has returned from overseas and is staying at LEI’s for the time being. He is preparing a surprise birthday party for CHU. CHU meets with the boss of a fast-food chain to look for a job for HON. HON and JOE are making cakes in the kitchen. LEI is shocked to hear that they have already registered in Canada. For fear that CHU cannot take the news, SUM and LEI try their best to prevent CHU from meeting HON. HON announces at CHU’s birthday party that he is going to stay in Hong Kong and that he wants to be a cake chef. CHU smashes the cake in anger. Although HON does very well in his job interview, he does not get the job because of CHU’s intervention. HON is returning to Canada. LEI offers to finance his cake shop with a view to making him stay. HON has a talk with CHU, who agrees not to interfere with HON’s career choice if he can cook a Chinese banquet that CHU finds satisfactory. HON takes up the challenge.
